frequently asked questions

what is a giclée print?

A giclée print is a high-quality reproduction made using the best practices: the best quality paper and ink available. All of our inks are light-fast and have a life span of over two hundred years. Our choice of paper is a professional grade, archival art paper manufactured by Hahnemühle. Together they make for an elegant and high-end product that can last generations.

how big are the prints?

Our giclée are printed on two standard paper dimensions: 8x10 and 11x14 inches. It is easy and affordable to frame them. The image within the print varies in size. All come with a white border, weighted at the bottom (the lower margin is slightly larger).

Thus, an 11x14” sheet of paper, can hold a square image of  9x9” or a rectangular image of 9x11.5”.  Some images are vertical and some are horizontal as per the original artwork. There are naturally some variations since each original collage is unique in its shape and size. We do not print full bleed giclée, which are difficult to frame without impinging on the image.

If you choose a square image and wish to display it with a mat, you will need a custom mat. Off the shelf rectangular frames usually come with a rectangular mat and non UV filtering glass, and are not recommended. Hence the need to cut a mat specially for your square image giclée.

Naturally, how you display your giclée is ultimately your choice, and it needs to suit your décor. No matter your final decision, any of our giclée will be a beautiful addition to your surroundings.

can I include a message to the recipient?

We are very grateful and excited when customers choose our giclée as gifts. Indeed, you can let us know if you wish to send a written message to the recipient. We will include a small card at no extra charge. Our pleasure!

I bought an original. now what?

Whether you choose a full-bleed collage, a collage with a border in a contrasting color, or one with traditional white edges, your choices for framing are endless. Your local framing shop will be able to assist you in this regard. Some are best floated over a plain white background and others are enhanced by a simple beveled matboard. Follow your heart and trust your personal taste.

Again, the artist retains copyright of every image including originals and commissions. She is therefore the only one allowed to make reproductions of the image, whether for sale or otherwise.

Distribution of unauthorized images is easily traced and it constitutes an infringement of intellectual property laws.

when will I receive my print?

Prints are processed the next business day from the time the order comes in. We ship every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Depending on your location, you can expect your giclée print five to seven days later. We strive for safe, fast shipping.

All our mailing supplies are made of post-consumer materials and we encourage you to recycle. Thank you.

You will also receive an email with a tracking number that you can use to check on the progress of your shipment.

is your work digital collage?

No. My work is exclusively traditional collage, cut and paste technique and handmade. Artwork made using a computer program (no matter how complicated it might be) is painting with Photoshop. It requires certain technical knowledge that I have yet to explore. I lack the skills necessary to create computer generated images.

Most importantly, I feel that collage implies three dimensionality and the use of tangible materials. I enjoy the tactile aspect of collage, which is lost when an image is made on a screen. Many of my giclée preserve the appearance of the original texture due to their high quality, and you can often see a little crinkle or wash of medium that was part of the original collage. I try to make prints that faithfully represent the originals in all of their minute characteristics and don't consider these attributes as imperfections, but rather that which makes each collage special.

where can I find your work?

Our fine art giclée prints are exclusive to our website, madcollage.com.

The availability changes constantly with the addition of new examples. We inspect each print personally, and give the utmost attention to detail after the printing and during the shipping process. All images are of the highest resolution and quality, resulting in a velvety and richly colored print.

are your prints mass-produced?

The giclée are printed in small batches of five to ten prints at a time, and then they are inspected by the artist. Both the paper and the inks used in the making of each giclée are of the highest archival quality available in today’s market.

Enjoy a product of superior value that will last for generations to come! There is no need to settle for a low quality reproduction.
